Who We Are
Virginia Crane, formerly known as Foley Material Handling Co., manufactures and services overhead cranes and hoists of all sizes, as well as railway service equipment and other material handling equipment. We’ve built our reputation serving paper mills, railroads, shipyards and power companies. Our overhead cranes are available for all classes of CMAA (“A” through “F”) and AIST.
Our ability to provide severe duty equipment along with rebuilds and modernizations puts us a step above many crane manufacturers. As industry moves towards automation, we are increasingly working on Automated Storage Retrieval Systems and automated production projects.
Our History
In 1975 Dale Foley founded Foley Material Handling. Early projects involved Cleveland Tramrail Patented Track Monorail and Crane Systems that Dale would design and install with a small crew of employees. Next came the design and manufacturing of single girder cranes, and growth was continuous from there.
The VIRGINIA CRANE® Trademark was established in the early 1980’s along with the manufacturing of box girder cranes. The company has expanded the Service Department, Sales Team, and Engineering Department to become a Premiere Custom Crane and Hoist Builder with top quality products and a great reputation in our industry.
A New Chapter
In 2025, Foley Material Handling Co. Inc. aligned its public-facing corporate identity under its premier, long-standing registered brand name: Virginia Crane. Over time, external recognition of the Virginia Crane brand surpassed the broader corporate name of Foley Material Handling Co. Inc. The strategic shift to operate fully as Virginia Crane leverages immediate brand awareness, eliminates dual-naming confusion, and unifies all equipment lines and field services under a single, trusted name.
